The master of science (MS) in nursing program at the Sinclair School of Nursing enables students to obtain advanced education online to prepare for leadership roles in nursing practice, education and research.

Requirements

To be considered for admission to the Sinclair School of Nursing’s master’s degree program, students must meet the following requirements:

  • A degree from a nationally accredited baccalaureate nursing program.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 for the last 60 credit hours of the baccalaureate program.
  • Two reference forms from qualified people able to predict the applicant's ability to succeed in graduate study.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse.
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores, which may be waived for any student with a GPA of 3.3 higher (4.0 grading scale), based on the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework.
  • Successful completion of a graduate-level statistics course.
  • A personal interview, upon request.

For International Applicants:

  • Non-native English speaking applicants need documentation of English-language proficiency, demonstrated through a satisfactory Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score within the last two years. Our minimum TOEFL score requirement for the school of nursing is 600 (paper-based test), 250 (computer-based test) or 100 (Internet-based test) with no part score below 15. The minimum total academic IELTS score for graduate admission to MU is 7.0 (overall) and 6.0 (minimum bandwidth). http://admissions.missouri.edu/howtoapply/international/englishLanguageAbility.php
  • International students must submit a photocopy of a current RN license from their home country with their Masters application.
  • International nurses must obtain a Missouri RN license prior to beginning coursework. In order to obtain a Missouri RN license, the applicant will need to pass the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) exam and the NCLEX exam. Applicants are encouraged to take the CGFNS exam in their home country. Steps in applying

  • Apply for admission to the university through the graduate school.
  • Forward official transcripts from each college or university attended to the graduate school, along with official GRE scores.
  • Apply for the master’s program with the Sinclair School of Nursing.
Include the following with your application to the Sinclair School of Nursing:
  • Two reference forms.
  • Copy of current nursing license and current CPR card.
  • Resume or curriculum vitae.
  • A personal statement of your professional goals and how this program will help you achieve them.
