DTW Black and Gold Head shot_2024

As the Principal Investigator (PI) on two National Institutes of Health funded grants and one American Heart Association funded grant, Dr. Wipke-Tevis has done significant work related to microvascular responsiveness and function as well as associated signs and symptoms in individuals with chronic, non-healing wounds and microvascular disorders as well as healthy young and mid-life adults.  In addition to my own program of research, she has also been a co-investigator on 3 R01s and an R15 in the School of Nursing and a T90/R90 Clinical Biodetective Training Grant out of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology in the School of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Wipke-Tevis has a long history of successful mentoring of undergraduate, masters, DNP, and PhD students research primarily related to foot, wound and skin care issues, symptom experience in acute and chronic illness, and use of technology to predict pressure ulcer status and assess cardiovascular disorders.

Based on a collective body of work, Dr. Wipke-Tevis and her colleagues have contributed to the science of pressure ulcer prevention and treatment across a variety of care settings (Schmitz, Becker, Deroche, & Wipke-Tevis, 2020;  Linneman, Crumley, & Wipke-Tevis, 2019; Shepherd, Wipke-Tevis et al. 2015; Wipke-Tevis et al., 2004; Siem, Wipke-Tevis et al., 2003). They have also added to a scientific base related to the self-care of foot health and venous leg ulcers (O’Connor, Deroche, & Wipke-Tevis, 2020; O’Connor, Enriquez, & Wipke-Tevis, 2020; Wipke-Tevis et al., 2001; Wipke-Tevis  & Stotts, 1998; Wipke-Tevis & Stotts, 1996) and contributed to the accurate measurement of skin and systemic oxygenation, perfusion, and ventilation in individuals with or at risk for chronic wounds and/or other cardiovascular disorders (Prentice, Deroche, & Wipke-Tevis, 2020; Sae-Sia, Wipke-Tevis, et al. 2007; Wipke-Tevis & Williams, 2007;  Sae-Sia, Wipke-Tevis, et al., 2005). Additionally, Wipke-Tevis and her colleagues have contributed to symptom science in individuals with acute and chronic illnesses such as cardiac and colorectal cancer surgery, multiple sclerosis, and venous ulcers by examining symptoms such as cosmetic result, distress, drowsiness, edema, fatigue, mood disturbances, pain, and sleep disturbances (Krisanabud, Wipke-Tevis, et al. 2019; Newland, Wipke-Tevis et al., 2005; Wipke-Tevis et al., 2000; Wipke-Tevis et al., 1996).
