
RN to BSN Online Program Clinical Experience
RN-BSN Online Option. The RN-BSN option includes multiple courses with direct and indirect practice experiences. Direct care refers to nursing care activities provided at the point of care to patients or working with other healthcare providers that are intended to achieve specific health goals or achieve selected health outcomes. For example, working with other providers in any setting where health care is delivered to identify gaps in care and implement a quality improvement strategy. Indirect care refers to nursing decisions, actions, or interventions that are provided through or on behalf of patients. For example, educating other healthcare providers regarding the safe and effective use of new technology.
Students have a variety of opportunities for the clinical, such as:
- Working with a county health agency
- Serving as a summer camp nurse
- Taking an international trip to Costa Rica
- And many other opportunities near your own community

Course Description
Nurse 4970 Nursing in Communities examines roles and functions of nurses within community with emphasis on application of community/public health concepts and design and implementation of nursing systems of care for individuals, families, and populations. Students will complete 45 clinical hours during the 8-week summer term.
In Nurse 4200 Nursing Ethics and the Law students will complete a short shadowing experience, focused on ethical situations.
In Nurse 4500 Interprofessional Healthcare Collaboration and Care Management, students will complete a short shadowing experience focused on observing various groups interact for case management.
