Program Capacity
Admission to the Accelerated BSN is considered competitive due to space availability. We admit up to 28 students in each of the fall and spring semesters.
Who Should Apply
Students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who have graduated, or plan to graduate, with a non-nursing bachelor’s degree before beginning the Accelerated courses.
The application materials are slightly different for students who have graduated from MU and students who have graduated from another university. Please follow the checklist and application steps that apply to you.
When to Apply
The online application will be available at least one month prior to the application deadline. Application deadlines follow:
To start clinical in the spring: Apply by September 15
To start clinical in the fall: Apply by January 31
Admissions Mission Statement
The Sinclair School of Nursing strives to prepare students to meet the challenges and diverse needs of individuals, communities, and populations in which they will serve. We believe a quality nursing education must provide an inclusive learning environment in which individuals from various backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives have the opportunity to gain the knowledge and experience needed for entry into the profession.
In providing this inclusive learning environment, several criteria may be considered during the holistic admission process to reflect our professional community. Admission to the nursing program is based on a combination of criteria including: each student’s unique experiences, attributes, and academic metrics.
Criteria
Coursework: Applicants must complete, or be in progress, with the required prerequisites and complete a Bachelor’s degree before starting the Accelerated BSN program.
Grade Point Average: Applicants must obtain a minimum 3.0 GPA (without rounding).
Resume: To be considered for admission, each applicant must submit a resume of the student’s work and volunteer experiences. Applicants are required to use the provided resume template.
Interview & Essay: Students will have the opportunity to expand upon their resume in an online session where they will provide interview and essay responses. Students will be evaluated based on several attributes including: understanding the role of a nurse, compassion, ability to think critically, effective communication, teamwork, resiliency, inclusivity and integrity/ethical decision making.
Two Recommendations: The online application will include a link for you to share with two professionals who can provide a recommendation for your application. . A professional reference should not include family, friend/classmate, co-worker, minister, coach or academic advisor. Professional reference sources could include job, volunteer, or internship supervisor, professor or instructor.
