The University of Missouri’s Sinclair School of Nursing (SSON) has a new opportunity to serve and support rural Missouri by opening a nurse-led health care clinic in collaboration with MU Healthcare in Holts Summit, Missouri. We are seeking two Nurse Practitioners who are passionate about providing primary care while also embracing the invaluable role of enhancing the student experience of our future nurses. In addition to expanding healthcare access to Holts Summit and the surrounding communities, our APRNs are part of the SSON’s committed and high-performing team that embraces the philosophy of providing an inclusive environment where our students, staff, faculty, patients, and visitors can feel welcome.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide excellent primary care to patients. 
  • Work independently and in collaboration with other health care professionals to provide care in the outpatient setting. 
  • Communicate with team members about changes in patients’ clinical conditions, results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology.
  • Respond quickly and accurately to changes in conditions. 
  • Work independently and in collaboration with health care professionals to provide care in the outpatient setting. 
  • Perform treatments and interventions; conduct teaching and counseling of patients and families; and facilitate clinical research.
  • Serve as a clinical preceptor for students.

Qualifications

Master’s degree is required.

Required Licensure or Certification:

  • Graduation from an accredited nurse practitioner program by start of appointment.
  • May possess a specialty certificate by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), the Pediatric Certification Nursing Board (PCNB), and the National Certification Corporation (NCC).
  • Licensure as a registered professional nurse in the State of Missouri and must be granted “Document of Recognition” as a certified nurse practitioner from the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
  • Two years’ experience in wound care.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • Experience in Wound Management / Surgery / Primary Care / Infectious Disease / Diabetes is desired.

Clinical Instructor/Nurse Planner

This position serves as the Primary Nurse Planner in a fast-paced, growing, entrepreneurial interprofessional continuing education environment.  A passion for education, a keen eye for detail, a strong sense of teamwork, and a desire to see your fellow nurses and other healthcare professionals learn and grow are at the heart of this role.

This is a unique community outreach, interprofessional faculty position housed within the Sinclair School of Nursing (SSON). The person holding this position will be a faculty member within SSON while working predominantly as a nursing expert on the Continuing Education for Health Professions (CEHP) team. CEHP is administratively housed in MU Extension and was created by the merger of MU Nursing Outreach and Continuing Medical Education and is designed to deliver relevant learning to an interdisciplinary healthcare audience. CEHP is a division of the Office of Health Outreach, Policy, and Education (HOPE). HOPE brings together these various units: CEHP (MU Extension), Rural Scholars Program (School of Medicine), Center for Health Policy (College of Health Sciences) and the Missouri Telehealth Network/Show-Me ECHO program (SOM). Working collaboratively, these units support an integrated approach to community health and embody the University’s commitment as a land-grant institution to improve the health and well-being of all Missourians. The Office of HOPE is making significant contributions to advance the health of Missourians, to garner additional grant funding, and to help the University of Missouri achieve its strategic vision.

This Clinical Instructor/Primary Nurse Planner position is a Non-Tenure Track clinical appointment in Continuing Education for Health Professions (CEHP).  It is a 1.00 FTE twelve-month appointment and is accountable to the Director of Continuing Education for Health Professions (Extension).  This individual either meets or will meet the criteria for a Primary Nurse Planner/Nurse Planner as required by the Midwest Multistate Division (MSD) of the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center (ANCC).  A successful candidate who does not already meet these criteria will work with CEHP’s team to do so.

This position is based in Columbia, MO, but may be considered hybrid.  There is some travel (<5%) mostly for off-site events. 

Responsibilities

  1. Integrate evidence-based principles of andragogy in continuing nursing professional development program planning using multiple teaching-learning methods to promote transfer of learning to the work setting in order to improve health care and health outcomes.
  2. Keep current with rapidly changing health care scene and implications for continuing nursing professional development and its role in improving health outcomes.

Be knowledgeable about the nursing continuing education process and ensure that the educational activity is developed in compliance with ANCC/Midwest Multi-State Division accreditation criteria (https://midwestnurses.org/wp-content/uploads/PNP-NP-Roles-and-Responsibilities-2025.pdf) including but not limited to:

  1. Being actively involved in planning, implementing, and evaluating
  2. Ensuring the use of appropriate educational design and adult learning principles
  3. Guiding the determination of measurable learning outcomes to address identified learning gaps
  4. Mitigating potential relevant financial relationships of persons in control of content
  5. Reviewing all relevant materials related to presenters, marketing, etc, and maintaining accreditation files
  6. Be knowledgeable about and/or willing to learn accreditation criteria for other healthcare professionals, so as to develop programs suitable for an interprofessional audience.
  7. Ease and/or adaptability in using technology to promote teaching and learning in face-to-face and virtual environments.
  8. Maintain high quality accurate documentation and assists in writing applications for continuing approval as a CE provider through the Midwest MSD, also annual reports for Midwest MSD and other reports as needed.

Position Description

The Sinclair School of Nursing invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellow to join a foundation-funded research project focusing on telehealth implementation in nursing homes. This 12-month fellowship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to advancing our understanding of telehealth’s impact on older adults, particularly individuals with dementia in rural settings. 
 
The position allows for remote work flexibility, providing an ideal opportunity for a qualified candidate to engage in rigorous research while benefiting from a supportive academic environment. Occasional travel to Columbia, Missouri is required to participate in meetings, events and conferences.

Responsibilities:
Conducting mixed methods research to investigate the implementation and outcomes of telehealth interventions in nursing homes.
Designing and implementing qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, including interviews, surveys, and data analytics.
Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to analyze data, interpret findings, and contribute to scholarly publications.
Engaging with stakeholders, including nursing home staff, residents, and families, to ensure comprehensive understanding and impact assessment.
Participating in meetings and conferences to disseminate research findings and foster collaboration within the field.
 
Minimum qualifications:

Dr. Verna Rhodes, a former Professor in the Sinclair School of Nursing was a pioneer in oncology nursing research and is known as the “mother of oncology nursing symptom management and assessment.” Her work led to the development of 3 oncology assessment tools that are used in 23 countries around the world. 

The University of Missouri’s Sinclair School of Nursing boasts a new $30 million state-of-the-art facility (completed in August 2022) featuring a high-fidelity and immersive simulation center, advanced interactive classrooms, clinical skills and assessment labs and a dedicated research and innovation suite. Collaboration

  • Collaborate across the Sinclair School of Nursing to understand needs and deliver impactful solutions.

Outreach

  • Build engaged audiences, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and local community members.

Branding
