Sigma Theta Tau
The Alpha Iota chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society of nursing, was installed at the University in 1964. The purposes of the society are to: foster high professional standards; encourage creative work; promote maximum development of the individual; increase one's capacity to serve the profession and society; promote the spirit of fellowship among members of the nursing profession; develop an abiding interest in the advancement of nursing; and promote continuous participation as responsible members of the profession. Clinical nursing majors in the final year of the program may be invited to apply for membership.


MU Sinclair School of Nursing Steering Committee
This organization seeks to coordinate the efforts of the other School of Nursing organizations. The coordination of efforts is done without invading on the autonomy of the other student organizations and their activities. The Nursing Steering Committee seeks to provide an avenue through which communication and active participation thrive in a healthy student environment. Applications for the Steering Committee are collected twice a year, fall and spring. Applications are made available in the Student Affairs Office.


Nursing Student Council (NSC)
All undergraduate nursing students are automatically members of the NSC. Nursing Student Council is composed of elected executive officers, class representatives and student representatives of the student faculty committees. Council meetings are open to all students, and all NSC members have voting privileges. The NSC: gives nursing students a voice in affairs affecting their academic and social lives; serves to enhance students' educational and social environment; improves communication among students, faculty and administrators; assists in the development and improvement of selected nursing-school policies; and coordinates the various student activities in the school.


National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA)

Students may join the National Student Nurses' Association. Participation in the organization gives student nurses a chance to have their voices heard in state legislatures, Congress, nursing organizations and communities. All students are encouraged to become involved.

Nursing Scholars Program
Qualified high school seniors, MU freshman and transfer students can be guaranteed admission to the clinical nursing major. The criteria for admission for high-school seniors are an ACT composite score of 29 or higher, or equivalent SAT score and rank in the top 10 percent of the high-school graduating class. For current students, the criterion is a 3.5 GPA after two semesters. Transfer students must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA after 30 hours of college credit. Once admitted to the program, continued eligibility requires maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher and completing a minimum of 12 hours of Honors College courses (before starting the clinical nursing major). Nursing Scholars is a joint program of the School and the Honors College. All scholars students also must be admitted to the Honors College. The Nursing Residence
The Nursing Residence is an innovative living-learning residence hall for nursing majors and current clinical nursing majors. Those students who qualify for the Nursing Scholars Program are especially encouraged to apply. Nursing faculty work with residents to help them find productive roles. The residence is on the ground level of Graham Hall, immediately adjacent to the School of Nursing Building. The air-conditioned Graham Hall, in the Pershing Group of residence halls, is open during all breaks during the nine-month academic year. The ground level is coed and accessible to persons with disabilities. A computer lab, study hall, seminar rooms, convenience store and other amenities are in nearby Pershing Hall. A housing application from the Residential Life office is required. Nurses Christian Fellowship

The Nursing Christian Fellowship offers an opportunity for students to meet and discuss nursing issues as they relate to their Christian faith.  NCF meets for bible studies and prayer twice monthly.  The organization also offers service projects and other social opportunities fellow Christians. NCF is open to all nursing students both pre-clinical and clinical.
