Pre-clinical Application Process

Students spend the first two years at MU taking general education courses and courses that are believed to be necessary for any nursing student.

Once a student is in their final semester of these pre-clinical classes, that student applies for the clinical portion of the program. Students should apply to the Clinical Nursing Major the semester before they intend to begin. This application process typically occurs in the second semester of the sophomore year.

Approximately 60 semester hours of general education pre-requisite are required for application to the clinical nursing major. If a student has transferred to MU or the School of Nursing, the application can take place after the sophomore year. A pre-clinical GPA of a little over 3.0 is considered competitive for clinicals (but does not guarantee admission). The School of Nursing admits 55 students into the clinical major for the fall and winter semesters. Applications are due for students wishing to start clinicals in a fall term by February 1st. Applications are due for students wanting to start clinicals in a winter term by September 15th. If you have any questions about applying to the clinical major, please direct them to the Student Affairs office.

A minimum of 120 hours is required for completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing. Students are strongly encouraged to work with a School of Nursing Undergraduate Academic Adviser to ensure that all general education requirements and nursing requirements are met.

The student must present evidence of immunization and CPR certification prior to beginning clinical courses (See Health Requirements under Clinical Majors).
