Of course if you're a football fan you're well aware of the tremendous success of Coach Pinkel's team this year, culminating in a Cotton Bowl victory over Arkansas on New Year's Day. But Tiger athletics isn't the only story here, because our own Sinclair School of Nursing continues to grow in its national recognition as one of the top schools in the country.

The Chronicle of Higher Education's “Top Research Universities Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index” ranked us 3rd in the nation. The quality and quantity of research by our faculty is exceptional, and their work is truly making a difference as the knowledge they generate moves to the practice setting.

Such success does not happen without great leadership and Rose Porter has been that leader since 1999. With her retirement, the school certainly loses a dynamic, innovative, visionary and inspiring Dean.

We are fortunate and grateful that her successful tenure places the School in an excellent position as the search for a new dean gets underway.

I am the nursing alumni representative on the dean search committee, and I
am delighted to tell you that the committee is very pleased and excited about the quality of the candidates who have applied for the position.

Interviews will be conducted soon and it is our goal to hire a new dean who will continue the proud tradition of excellence at Mizzou.

The annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony is being held on Friday, April 11 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia. Read the profiles of the alumni recipients: Martha Barnard; Suzanne Cram; Jacqueline Juenger; Rosemary Porter; and Ruth Ann Kroth.

I want all of you to think about coming back to campus for this event and the Class Reunion Day on Saturday, April 12 (especially if you graduated in a year ending in “8”), for a tour of University Hospital and the School.

Don't you want to come and see this nationally recognized school of yours and learn first hand why it's a great time to be a Tiger?!

The members of the Nursing Alumni Organization will personally ensure you have a wonderful time and we promise you will walk away with a renewed sense of pride in and excitement about this fantastic school.

Please contact me or Donna Otto, the organization's liaison, if we can help you organize your class for a reunion weekend.

Come and be a part of the enthusiasm on the campus for the MUSSON!
