An open-door policy and enthusiasm for being involved might very well be the tagline for Jackie Juenger's life.

As the director of medical and oncology services at Boone Hospital Center , she promotes the use of evidence-based practice in the provision of care. Along those lines, she encourages her highly skilled nursing staff to serve as preceptors for Mizzou's senior capstone course knowing they will gain as much knowledge as the students in this educational exchange.

A firm believer in education, Juenger is very supportive of nurses obtaining their undergraduate degree through the RN-BSN program or expanding their knowledge base through the clinical nurse leaders master's program. This passion has led her to teach nursing issues and nursing leadership in the RN-BSN program at Central Methodist University in Fayette , Mo. As an Oncology Certified Nurse, her extensive interest and education in the oncology arena has made her an advocate in staff nurses seeking certification in their specialty areas.

“Jackie's interest in oncology expands from prevention to palliative care,” says Dorreen Rardin, Coordinator for the Palliative Care Program at Boone Hospital Center . “She is a classic role model and mentor in this area, not only to her staff and students, but to the community at large.”

Juenger has a passion for serving the Columbia community related to cancer awareness. The Boone County American Cancer Society has benefited from her dedication as she served as co-chair for the Relay for Life after being on the steering committee for many years. She also served on the board of directors for the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. She has served in every position on the mid-Missouri Oncology Nursing Society Board including president. Juenger truly practices what she preaches and shows the nurses she works with that each and every individual can, and does, make a difference.

“I have been fortunate that Jackie has taken me under her wing,” Rardin continues. “She has taught me great leadership and coaching skills. The palliative care program has made great strides due to the suggestions and lessons I have learned from her.”
