Helping Hands

George William Peak Nursing Scholarship

The late George & Blanche Peak established the George William Peak Nursing Scholarship Fund through their estate plan to encourage student nurses to go into this area of care.

Their gift shows the Peak's support for the University of Missouri Health Care 's Burn unit, and the nursing care provided to burn victims. Their intent was for the School to work hand in hand with the University of Missouri Health Care Burn unit that now bears the name of their late son, George David Peak. Their son was an emergency medical technician at the University Hospital and a volunteer firefighter who died in a plane crash. The newly unveiled center is now called the George David Peak Memorial Burn and Wound Center.

Elizabeth Kraatz Undergraduate Burn Nursing Scholarship Fund

Elizabeth and James Kraatz established the James and Elizabeth Kraatz Undergraduate Burn Nursing Scholarship Fund when she joined the School's faculty and he became the director of the George David Peak Memorial Burn and Wound Center and assistant professor of general surgery at the University of Missouri-Columbia's School of Medicine.

This gift was established to recognize nurses and the important role they play, as well as involving them in a mentoring role.

They are also setting up another endowment to honor Elizabeth 's passion in cancer nursing.
