COLUMBIA , Mo. Leesa McBroom, of Liberty, was recently nominated for the 2008 Nursing Alumni Organization's PhD Award for Overall Excellence from the Sinclair School of Nursing at the University of Missouri. The award recognizes scholarly and research ability, academic excellence and professional commitment.

McBroom was raised in Suisun, CA., and currently works at William Jewell College, in Liberty, as an assistant professor of nursing.

“After high school, I was unsure of what career to pursue,” said McBroom. “My friendship with a nurse recruiter ignited my passion for nursing; my experience with my mother's death gave me the understanding and compassion to care for others.”

MU is the largest and oldest campus of the state's major public research institutions. MU's primary mission in research and graduate education provides enhanced opportunities and challenges in the undergraduate areas of humanities, arts and sciences, and selected professional fields. The University provides a basis for service to the people of the state through outreach programs.
