COLUMBIA , Mo. – The MU Sinclair School of Nursing is listed as one of the finalists for the 25th Annual Telly Awards. The school received the bronze award in the fundraising category for their video “100 Years of Mizzou Nursing.” Winner and Finalists in 188 categories were selected from more than 10,000 worldwide entries.

Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards are the premier awards honoring outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs as well as the finest video and film productions. The Winners and Finalists represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators and corporate video departments around the world. These awards are widely known and a highly respected international competition.

“You have the Oscars for film, the Emmys for broadcast video and then the Tellys for non-broadcast video,” said Frank Fillo, director of the Cooperative Video Group for the University of Missouri and the director of the school's video. “Receiving the bronze award in the fundraising category is an honor. We had a great story to tell about the MU Sinclair School of Nursing. We tried to capture the integrity, the scholarship, the research excellence and the dedication to teaching in our video; it was the unscripted comments of the students that really gave the video a strong voice.”

A prestigious judging panel of more than 20 accomplished industry professionals, each a past Winner of a Silver Telly, the top honor, upholds the historical standard of excellence that these awards represent. Judges evaluate entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other. Instead, they are judged against a high standard of merit. Judges score entries on a performance scale and then top honors – Silver and Bronze – are based on the combined judge's score.

Several of last year entrants were: Animal Planet, AT&T Media Service, Broadway Video, Comcast, Columbia Pictures, ESPN International, Fogarty Klein Monroe, Goodwill Industries, Hallmark Channel, Harpo Productions, QVC, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Starz Encore Group, Life, Time Warner Cable, BMW, Boeing, Discovery Communications, Golf Channel, iVillage, Lockheed Martin, Mayo Clinic, Miramax Films, MSNBC, NASA, National Park Service, NBC, Nike, New York Yankees, Oracle, Readers Digest, Sesame Workshop, Target Corp., TBS Superstation, and Turner Classic Movies.

“This is so exciting for me, my staff and the school as a whole,” said Dean Rose Porter. “We created our video to celebrate not only 100 years of Mizzou Nursing but to let everyone know how strong our academic, research and practice components are in today's fast-paced, health-care industry. This award reinforces that fact and we are very proud.”

Chairman of the judging panel, Richard Friley, The Emmy and Telly Award winner President of Friley Productions commented, “I am proud to say the quality of work in this year's competition was remarkable. Being chosen for recognition from this excellent entry pool is a significant achievement for which the Winners and Finalists should be very proud.”

For the past 25 years, the Telly Awards has been affiliated with the Center for Creativity, an organization that was founded in 1963 to research and study advertising, design, production and journalism.

Those who contributed to the production of this video included: The Cooperative Video Group – Frank Fillo, Gene Ertel, Michael Hicks and Kurt Roehlke;  from the school – Pam Roe, Sherry Cass and Bill McLain, student intern. And a special thank you to Michael Porter for selecting the music and the faculty, staff, students and friends of the school who appeared in the video.
