Bio/professional experience
Over the past several years, my nursing career has increasingly focused on community health, and its connection with evaluation issues and public policy. While the setting for my nursing practice shifted from an inpatient critical care and administrative setting to academic teaching and research, the focus on high quality, cost-effective care for at-risk populations remains the same.
My clinical nursing background in the acute patient care setting, including staff development and quality improvement initiatives, provided valuable experiences to conduct program evaluations for various state-wide health programs for the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services and the Missouri Department of Mental Health. My present research interest is in the area of information literacy for nurses working in community-based practice and for nurses in the acute care setting who use the electronic health record.
I presently teach evidence-based practice and health policy in the MU online graduate program, and, in the past, have taught graduate level program development and evaluation and undergraduate community health nursing.
