Bio/Professional experience

Tina L. Bloom, PhD, MPH, RN, joined the Sinclair School of Nursing faculty in August 2008 after completing her doctoral work in nursing at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. Her research area of interest is intimate partner violence. She has collaborated on a number of federally funded, interdisciplinary research projects designed to evaluate violence interventions, including computer-based safety planning tools, nurse case management for pregnant women, a danger assessment tool for women in abusive same-sex relationships, workplace trainings, and housing interventions. A former labor and delivery nurse, Dr. Bloom is particularly interested in the impact that intimate partner violence has upon maternal-child health. Her dissertation was a mixed-methods, participatory research project that explored how vulnerable women become mothers in the context of multiple, intersecting stressors, including violence, poverty, mental health issues, and addiction. Her dissertation also explored the role that nurses and other health care providers play in mediating the effects of these stressors in mothers' lives.
