Essig

Ann Crowe Essig's compassion, strength and heart knew no bounds. Throughout her life, her first-hand experience benefited others living with cancer and other debilitating diseases.

Ann, BSN '71, took her personal story with cancer and created something beautiful by envisioning and bringing to life clinical spaces for patients that were less austere and more serene in which they could undergo their treatments.

Partners in life and business, Ann was the business manager of the couple's oncology practice in Fredericksburg , Virginia.

Avidly involved in her community, she founded the Fredericksburg Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary and volunteered with many other community organizations including the Montfort Academy. She was also an avid gardener and accomplished pianist.

When Ann was tragically struck and killed by a car in 2004, her husband, Dr. LeRoy
Essig felt it was important to bury her with the two things she was most proud of — her wedding ring and her nursing pin.

Dr. Essig and their children have continued to expand Ann's vision of helping others by also establishing the Ann Crowe Essig Undergraduate Nursing Research Mentorship Program. This program will give BSN students a chance to participate in and experience how research can impact lives early on in their education.

On this day, January 26, 2007, they honor their wife and mother by naming this auditorium the Ann Crowe Essig Nursing Auditorium.
