Admission requirements

To be admitted to the accelerated BSN program, a student must:

• Have earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a field other than nursing from an accredited college or university.
• Provide transcript information for review. Evidence of academic achievement of a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale is required. Transcripts must be on file with the MU Admissions office at the time of application.
• Complete the prerequisite courses with a minimum grade of “C” or better. Prerequisite courses may be taken at any accredited college or university. Find out more about course transfers.
• Complete a statement of career goals, a statement describing the applicant’s view of nursing as a profession, two letters of reference from individuals who can attest to the applicant’s motivation and ability to complete a course of intensive study, and a personal interview.
• Provide evidence of potential and motivation for nursing.
• Give evidence of prior work success or ability to handle a fast-paced academic program.

How to apply

Application for the accelerated BSN degree requires the following steps:

• Apply to MU for general admission before applying to the Sinclair School of Nursing for the accelerated program.
• Complete an application form for the accelerated BSN program (PDF).
• Submit your transcript with your application.
• Research and apply for external scholarships.
• Submit two completed reference forms (PDF).
• Submit statements of career goals and views of nursing as a profession.
• Once you’ve been admitted, proof of required immunizations, CPR certification and negative drug screening must be on file with Student Health before the start of clinicals the first summer semester.
