Directed field experiences in varied settings exploring local customs and cultural/ethnic diversities influencing health care delivery. Graded S/U. Prerequisite: N3670, consent of instructor.

N7100 Theories In Nursing (3)
Analysis, application, and evaluation of theories used in nursing practice and research. Metaparadigm, grand, middle range, and practice theories are examined. Prerequisite: None.

N7110 apn role acquisition course (3)
An overview of the advanced nursing practice role and professional issues. Provides foundational knowledge on which other advanced practice nursing courses will build. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master's Program.

N7111 Trends And Issues In Nursing (3)
Issues and trends involving professional nursing practice are examined from socioeconomic organizational, legal and ethical perspectives. Past, present and future roles and practice of nurses are examined.

N7120 Physiological Concepts for Nursing (3)
Focus on biophysiological knowledge that contributes to an understanding of health deviations and related nursing interventions. Common physiological concepts with clinical relevance for the advanced practice nurse are explored. Prerequisite: current enrollment in graduate school.

N7130 Clinical Pharmacology (3)
Emphasis on drug therapy management for various client populations in the primary care setting.

N7140 A dvanced Health Assessment and Promotion (3)
Health assessment techniques are expanded. Introduces concepts of well-being, assessment of health risk factors and illness behaviors across the lifespan. Emphasizes design of nursing systems for individuals/families in a variety of health care systems. Prerequisites: BSN or instructor consent.

N7150 Research Methods in Nursing (3)
Course designed to provide student with skills of the beginning nurse researcher, including the fundamentals of scientific inquiry in nursing. The development, interpretation, and communication of nursing research are addressed. Pre/corequisites: N7100 and graduate statistics.

N7210 human health and the environment (3)
Examinatioin of relationships between human health and global environmental quality. Overview of assessing, communicating, and managing environmental risks within the framework of public health's core functions.

N7245 Health Appraisal of Individuals and Families (3-4)
Health assessment techniques expanded. Introduces concepts of wellness, assessment of health risk factors. Emphasizes design of nursing systems for individuals/families in ambulatory care settings. Clinical practice hours variable. Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.

N7310 A dvanced Health Assessment for Pediatric Nursing Practice (3)
Comprehensive assessment of children through adolescence including those with significant health and/or developmental deviations using advanced diagnostic reasoning process. Emphasis on health history, cultural diversity, differentiation, interpretation and documentation of findings.

N7320 Advanced pediatric pathophysiology (3)
Embryology of major organ systems and specific physiologic and pathophysiologic in children from birth through age 18 will be studied. Emphasis is on the relationship between altered physiologic functioning decision making and standards of advanced nursing practice.

N7330 pediatric pharmacology for advanced nursing practice (3)
Clinical pharmacoherapeutics course that builds on prior pharmacology knowledge. Major focus is pharmacotherapeutics for primary care management of children to age eighteen. Emphasis on clinical critical thinking used to prescribe drugs.

N7600 Women's Health (3)
A survey of international and domestic women's health issues; considers historical antecedents and specific effects of socio-cultural variables and economic development on women's health in developing and developed nations.

N8010 Family Dynamics and Intervention (3)
Theories of family function and dysfunction, techniques of assessment, models of family intervention. Practicum with selected families. Prerequisite: N7100 (Nursing Students).

N8100 Epidemiology For Public Health Practice (3)
Explores important concepts of epidemiology, including distribution and determinants of disease. Focus will be on the public health/population based practice. Prerequisite: Statistics (graduate level) or faculty permission.

N8110 Concepts For Specialization In Public Health Nursing (3)
Key concepts fundamental to specialization in public health nursing, including core public health functions. Emphasis upon integrating public health science, nursing theory, and methodological/leadership skills. Pre/corequisite: N7100.

N8120 Community-Based Public Health Interventions (4)
Assessing and diagnosing health-related needs of at-risk and vulnerable populations. Evaluating outcome-based research. Clinical practice implementing a public health intervention. Prerequisites: N8100, Stat(graduate level). Pre/corequisite N7150.

N8130 Developing And Evaluating Health Programs (3)
Designing and implementing cost-effective programs in health agencies. Controversies associated with specifying and appraising outcomes of health programs. Prerequisite or Corequisite: N7150, a clinical course within the student's area of specialty or instructor's consen.

N8140 Nursing and Health Policy (3)
Designed to explore and critically evaluate the role of nursing and nurse leaders/scholars in health policy development and the organization and financing of health care in response to the health and social needs of the public. Prerequisite: Graduate Standing.

N8200 foundations in school health nursing (3)
The student will learn the public health principles of leadership, collaboration, advocacy, communication and policy formation as they relate to the school setting. Prerequisite: N7100.

N8210 Special Health Care Needs Of Children In The School Setting (3)
The student will learn to assess factors impeding a child's learning, determine services needed, so the child can experience academic achievement. Prerequisites: N7100 .

N8400 Clinical Management in Primary Health Care i: Adults Through Aging (3)
Health maintenance of adults and older adults. Design, implementation, evaluation of nursing management of acute and chronic problems. Integrated clinical practicum. Issues of clinical management within advanced practice role. Prerequisites: N7120/N7320, N7130/N7330, N7140/N7310.

N8410 Clinical Management in Primary Health Care ii: Adults Through Aging (3)
Continuing emphasis on nursing management of selected acute and chronic problems. Clinical preventive services; integrated clinical practicum. Nurse practitioner role within changing health care system. Prerequisite: N8400.

N8420 Primary Health Care Management: Newborn Through Adolescence (3)
Infant-child health maintenance/promotion. Nursing management of common childhood illness, behavioral, developmental problems. Advanced knowledge of human growth, development, family dynamics, community resources, collaborative relationships. Integrated clinical practicum. Prerequisite: N7120, N7130, N7140, N7310, N7320, and N7330.

N8430 Primary Health Care Management: Reproductive and Sexual Health (3)
Reproductive, sexual issues, adolescence through aging. Design, delivery, evaluation of nursing management of women, reproductive health care of men. Stresses personal health promotion. Prerequisite: N7140, N8410 or consent of instructor.

N8500 Primary Health Care Management of aging I (3)
Health promotion, wellness, concepts of normal aging. Design, delivery, evaluation of primary health care management of aging adults from an advanced practice nursing perspective. Prerequisites: N7130, N7140, N8400 or consent of instructor.

N8510 Primary Health Care Management of aging II (3)
Continuing emphasis on health promotion, wellness, concepts of aging. Primary health care management of complex health care problems in aging adults from advanced practice nursing perspective. Prerequisites: N8410, N8500, consent of instructor.

N8600 public health and sociocultural issues (3)
Explores concepts of public health with a focus on the advance practice nurse in population-based/primary care practice; Core public health functions will be addressed at three service levels--the aggregate, family, and the individual. Prerequisite: N7100

N8610 Diagnostics and Psychopharmacology for Mental Health Nurses (3)
Emphasis is on the neurobiologic basis and diagnosis of mental health problems and advanced nursing management of psychiatric conditions using pharmaceutical agents. Prerequisites: N7120, N7130, N7140.

N8620 Brief Individual Psychotherapy For Mental Health Nurses (3)
Develops advanced skills in assessment, treatment, and follow-up evaluation of individuals experiencing acute mental health problems. Emphasizes brief psychotherapy based on frameworks from nursing and other disciplines. Prerequisite: N7100 or concurrent.

N8640 Group Therapy and Social Skills Training (3)
Application of group and behavioral methods in mental health prevention, promotion, maintenance, and restoration. Designing, implementing, and evaluating mental health promotion groups and social skills training programs. Prerequisites: N7100 or concurrent.

N8660 Mental Health Nursing Interventions For Families (3)
Application of nursing and family theories in advanced nursing management of families experiencing a variety of problems. Emphasis on designing, implementing, and evaluating advanced nursing interventions for families. Prerequisite: N7100.

N8680 Pediatric Mental Helath Assessment and Treatment (3)
Develops advanced skills in psychiatric assessment and floow-up evaluation of children and adolescents experiencing mental-health problems. Explores diagnosis, treament and management of child and adolescent mental-health disorders. Prerequisite: N7120, N7130, N7140.

N8700 Case Management For Advanced Nursing Practice (3)
Examines case management as nursing care delivery system/interdisciplinary model of health care. Emphasized coordination of health care across diverse settings with individuals/families at risk for poor health outcomes. Pre/corequisite: N7100 .

N8710 Knowledge And Skills For Advanced Practice With Selected Patient Populations (3)
Readings for this course allow the student to develop depth and breadth of knowledge and skills for advanced practice nursing with a selected patient population. Pre/corequisite: N7120 .

N8720 symptom management in chronic illness (3: 2 didactic, 1 clinical)
Evaluating and managing symptoms in health and illness as experienced by selected patient populations. Pre/corequisites: N7100, N7150, clinical specialty course, instructor's consent .

N8730 The Continuum Of Care (3: 2 didactic, 1 clinical)
Examines settings wherein care is given, focusing on impact of setting on patient, delivery models/personnel providing care. Focuses on role/structure of care in various settings. Pre/corequisite: N8700 .

N8800 leadership and management in healthcare systems (4)
Prepares nurse leaders who facilitate and integrate complex structures and processes in healthcare systems. Understanding of partnerships, accountability, continuum-defined health care systems, self-managed teams, and value-based organizations. Prerequisite: N7100.

N8810 management of patient care services
Prepares nurses to effectively manage personnel, clinical operations, and quality improvement initiatives. Emphasizes techniques that facilitate sound nursing management across the care continuum. Multiple dimensions of managing patient care operations are considered. Prerequisite: N7100 .

N8820 health care financial management (3)
Prepares nurses to use the techniques that facilitate financial analysis and decision-making for patient care programs across the healthcare continuum. Focuses on efficient, effective management of resources for delivery of quality healthcare services. Prerequisite: N7100 .

N8850 Teaching Nursing (3)
Principles and methods of teaching, evaluation, and curriculum construction in nursing education. Prerequisite: Foundations of Educational Psychology 7100 or equivalent.

N8890 Clinical/Scholarly Project (1-3)
Design, implement and evaluate nursing projects derived from theory, including written report with explanation or justification to support the empirical and/or theoretical basis for the project. F,W,S. Prerequisites: N7100, N7150, graduate statistics. S/U only.

Selected independent research activities in conjunction with ongoing research programs of faculty. Prerequisites: N7150, graduate statistics, consent of Instructor. S/U only

N8910 advanced evidence-based nursing practice (3)
Assess practice changes, analyze evidence, and develop plan for implementing evidence-based practice. Provides skills to evaluate research base and practice standards. Students investigate practice issues to develop evidence-based plans for implementation. Prerequisites: N7100, N7150 .

N8940 Health Policy Practicum (3)
Field experiences for exploring and critically evaluating health policy shaping activities of nurse leaders/scholars as they respond to health and social needs of the public. Mentored practicum. Prerequisites: N8140 and permission of instructor.

N8950 Teaching nursing Practicum (3)
Participation in application of principles and methods of teaching, learning, and evaluation to the education of nursing students. Prerequisite: N8850

N8960 Leadership in Nursing and Healthcare Systems Practicum (3)
Participation in application of principles and methods of teaching, learning, and evaluation to facilitate patient care operations in various settings. Prerequisite: N8800, N8810, N8820.

Nursing Preceptorship Practicum; A preceptored or faculty-guided intensive clinical experience focused on synthesis and application of previous theory and clinical courses and development of an autonomous nursing practice role. Graded S/U. Prerequisite: N7150 consent of instructor.

N9120 developing Frameworks for nursing research (3)
Develop conceptual models and theoretical frameworks for use in research, integrating principles of scientific integrity, diverse populations, and settings. Prerequisite: N9110 .

N9130 philosophy of science in nursing (3)
Overview of foundational concepts of philosophy – history of science; development and evolution of science and philosophical perspectives of nature of science including logical, empiricism, historicism, post-structuralism as related to nursing science/nursing research.

N9410 advanced research methods in nursing (3)
Study of complex explanatory and predictive quantitative designs in primary and secondary data analysis. Prerequisites: 7150, Advanced Statistics, Instructor Consent .

N9420 qualitative methods (3)
Examines the following selected qualitative research approaches appropriate for the study of nursing phenomena and the extension or modification of scientific knowledge so as to be relevant to nursing: case study research methods, verbal qualitative approaches, and nonverbal qualitative approaches. Prerequisite: N7150 .

N9430 measurement issues (3)
Examines techniques used to estimate the various types, reliability and validity of psychological and biological measures of nursing phenomena as well as the appropriate use of existing measures. Prerequisites: 7150 and 9420.

N9510 Advances in Health Care Systems (3)
Guided in-depth exploration, analysis, and evaluation of selected nursing and other current literature in health care systems. Prerequisties: N9110, doctoral standing or consent of instructor.

N9520 Advances in Health Restoration and Support (3)
Guided in-depth exploration, analysis, and evaluation of selected nursing and other current literature in health restoration and support. Prerequisite: N9110, doctoral standing or consent of instructor.

N9530 Advances in Health Promotion and Protection (3)
Guided in-depth exploration, analysis, and evaluation of selected nursing and other current literature in health promotion and protection. Prerequisite: N9110, doctoral standing or consent of instructor

N9710 Advanced Research Practicum in nursing (1-6)
Supervised experience in nursing research before candidacy. Activities designed by student, faculty mentor, and program committee based on student's research expertise, substantive focus, and probable research trajectory. Includes seminar. Prerequisites: N9120, N9410, N9420 or N9430; instructor consent. S/U grading.
