Admission to the Accelerated BSN Program

Decisions about admission to the accelerated BSN option are based on the following criteria:

  • A baccalaureate or higher degree in another discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Transcript and admission form information review. The admission procedure requires two letters of reference from individuals that can attest to your motivation and ability to complete a course of intensive study, statements by the applicant that describe your view of nursing as a profession and your career goals, and a personal interview.
  • Evidence of academic achievement of a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale. Applicants with less than a 2.5 GPA will not be considered for admission.
  • Completion of prerequisite courses with a minimum of a C or better. Prerequisite courses may be taken at any accredited college or university. Four out of the six required prerequisites must be completed by the December preceeding admission.
  • Evidence of potential and motivation for nursing.
  • Evidence of prior work success and/or ability to handle a fast-paced academic program.
  • Proof of required immunizations, CPR certification and negative drug screening must be on file with Student Health before the start of clinicals the first summer semester.

Information About Course Transfer

  • There is no time limit imposed on courses transferable to the MU Sinclair School of Nursing. Students transferring credit of more than 10 years are encouraged to assess their present knowledge base in that area and initiate a self-study program if indicated.
  • If an applicant has previously taken a 4 to 7 hour combined anatomy and physiology course, anatomy credit only is given. The applicant is eligible to take an advanced standing examination or enroll in Physiology 3202. Applicants who have completed 8 hours or more of combined anatomy and physiology have satisfied the anatomy and physiology requirements.
