Nursing Specialty: Epidemiology and Public Health

Research and Interest Area: The epidemiology and prevention of injuries, particularly childhood injuries and injuries related to abuse and neglect. Also, public health surveillance and methods for increasing surveillance case ascertainment.

Dr. Schnitzer joined the School of Nursing faculty in 2005. She has her undergraduate degree in nursing from the University of Arizona, and a master's degree in nursing from the University of Alaska-Anchorage and a PhD in Epidemiology from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Just prior to joining the School, Dr. Schnitzer was a Research Assistant Professor for six years in the Family and Community Medicine Department at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
