Research: Disability and quality of life in older adults with chronic disabling conditions; predictors and outcomes of depression in persons with dementia

Lorraine J. Phillips, PhD, APRN, BC, FNP, is currently an Assistant Professor at the Sinclair School of Nursing at the University of Missouri. She joined the faculty in August 2007 after completing her doctoral work in nursing at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Phillips eanred a BS in Nursing from The Pennsylvania State University in 1977 and a MS in Nursing from the Family Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Delaware in 1996. Her research interests center on psychosocial influences of the disablement process in persons with chronic disabling conditions. Dr. Phillps plans to investigate the impact of depressive symptoms on disability and behavioral symptoms in persons with dementia, and the contribution of those variables to placement in and adjustment to long term care settings. She is interested in eventually developing and testing nursing interventions that my delay long term care placement for persons with dementia.
