Research Description: Evidence-based practice initiatives related to growth and development of the public health nursing workforce; informatics-based research exploring use of the electronic health record for nursing information management. Ongoing research interest in adolescent health and effective communication using mass media strategies.

Nursing Specialty: Public and community health

Interest Areas: Public health nursing, program evaluation, health policy, evidence-based practice, and nursing informatics.

Dr. Miller completed her PhD in nursing in May 2000, with collateral areas of study in evaluation and public health. She is principal investigator for the National Library of Medicine training grant for public health and school nurses in Utilizing Web-based Information and has been co-investigator for the HRSA training grant for Career Mobility for public health nurses. She has completed several public health contracts for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) including development of an online lactation curriculum, focus groups with un- and underinsured Missourians, and WIC-related projects. School of Nursing faculty responsibilities include teaching web-based graduate level courses in evidence-based practice and health policy, and undergraduate public health nursing. Dr. Miller is principal investigator for the American Nurses' Foundation Nurses' Information Literacy grant, an informatics project directed at nursing decision-making for patient care using the electronic health record. She oversees nursing projects in evidence-based practice at MU Health Care and leads the task force to address changes to the undergraduate baccalaureate nursing curriculum.
