Arlene says she has known since childhood that a career in health care was in her future. She was ill for an extended time as a child and has lasting memories of that experience. Nursing, she says, has allowed her to support and advocate for children and families, and in some small way honor the nurses who cared for her.

She enjoys teaching and mentoring students, especially sharing their joy when new skills are mastered or difficult concepts are understood. Says Arlene, "The enthusiasm students bring to learning is both infectious and inspiring. It is a privilege to share my knowledge with the next generation of nurses."

Arlene joined the faculty at the School of Nursing in 1993. She served as the faculty advisor for the Student Nurses Association for 10 years and is actively involved in Sigma Theta Tau, the Student Admission and Progression Committee and Code of Conduct Training.
