Research: Health outcomes of children with special needs; post-divorce family dynamics

Nursing Specialty: Family-child Nursing, Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

Interest Area: Health care of children and adolescents. Chronic conditions (asthma and cystic fibrosis; ADHD) management in children, family interventions, post-divorce family dynamics, school health and distance on-line education.

Debra Gayer PhD, RN, CPNP, is an Associate Teaching Professor of Clinical Nursing at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She coordinates the pediatric nurse practitioner program. This PNP program allows students to take all of their classes on line via the internet with a several on-campus seminar sessions.

Dr. Gayer maintains her skills as a pediatric nurse practitioner by working one day a week in a primary pediatric care practice. She has a special focus of care in management of children with asthma and ADHD. Gayer received her master's in family-child nursing in 1981 and obtained her doctorate in family studies from MU in 1997.
