Dr. Lea Wood received her BSN, MS(N) and DNP at the University of Missouri. She has health-care experience in the fields of women’s health, neonatal, bariatric, trauma, medical/surgical nursing and primary care. Dr. Wood specializes in the application of smart technology in the health care industry, integration of simulation into the curriculum and innovative instructional modalities for health care providers.
Dr. Wood is now the director of the MUSSON Simulation Center. The simulation center is the heart of the nursing school. It is where students get experience in a clinical setting while in a classroom. She designs scenarios to provide students an opportunity to experience real clinical situations in a simulated setting. This gives students an opportunity to employ critical thinking strategies without the fear of causing harm. It is through these encounters learners are able to develop their true nursing ability and resolve unexpected obstacles that happen all the time in real life.
